Whether it’s water spreading over a surface, gas filling a vacuum, or frost growing across a frigid windshield, nature seems to want to fill a void. It’s entropy-driven I’m sure, but more interesting to imagine as wanderlust on the part of atoms and molecules, like explorers driven to scout the empty space on the map.
